The History of the Matte Association of America

1st Meeting – November 13, 2013
After several years of research, a group of descendants of Nicolas Matte and Madeleine Auvray set in motion the foundation of the Matte Association of America.
Each of them having friends in Quebec, Canada, or the United States, they want to share their research to pay tribute to their ancestor, who is one of the founding families of Neuville.
Their first step will be to establish a website, a leaflet for the Association, and to highlight the site(s) such as the Matte River located near Route 365. This river crosses Route 138 and Route 365, as well as the many Matte streets lining Portneuf County. While waiting for further promotions…
Thanks to their future members, they can consider a gathering to celebrate the 350th anniversary of Nicolas Matte's arrival in Quebec and physically mark the site of the original land of ancestor Nicolas and his wife. Spread across the continent, Matte can be found in all provinces and as far as Yukon, Los Angeles, and the southern United States, not to mention the states near the Border. Thanks to the initiative of Jeannine Matte Richardson from New Hampshire, whose grandfather is from Deschambault, exchanges have led to the birth of this new Association. The people in the photo have begun to take the first steps of this new venture; we will keep you informed in the coming weeks on how to be part of this gathering. Descendants of Nicolas Matte as well as Mr. Rémi Morissette, president of the Neuville Historical Society, are guiding them in their first steps.

Since their first meeting, the Matte Association of America has made great strides. A composed and printed booklet. The website 'Famillematte.org' has been put online. Currently available in English or French are: the meaning of the word Matte, the history of Neuville, the seigneury of Bélair from Pointe aux Écureuils, inventories of seigneuries, maps of Notre-Dame des Anges, Charlesbourg, and Écureuils, cemeteries of Neuville, Mayor of St-Saire, and Matte places. All locations, places, and events related to the Matte, whether in Quebec, Canada, or the United States. There is still a lot of information to add, and it is with the new members that everything can improve.

2nd Meeting – December 2013

Currently in preparation on the site: The known Matte, the Matte buildings, etc. Other subjects will surely be discussed.
A section reserved for the members of the Association will include a descending family tree with capsules on each to enrich our knowledge, whether through text, photos, and even videos if possible. The history of Nicolas Matte, Madeleine Auvray, the history of the ancestral land in Neuville, and part of the contracts of Nicolas Matte have already been completed. They would like to add more information, and it is the upcoming members who can provide it. Physically identifying the Matte River, the ancestral land of Matte, organizing gatherings of Matte across America, etc. are being considered. On the family matte.com website; a journal, news from the Mattes, births, anniversaries, meetings, unions, departures, promotions, relocations. As you read, a lot can be set up. It is with people like you that this is possible and by taking the time.
Whether you are from the area, from the vast region of Quebec, at their next meeting on June 3 at 7 PM at the Neuville Historical Society, you must be there. They need you; descendants, spouses of Matte.
If you know friends elsewhere in Quebec, Canada, and the United States with the name Matte, let them know that their Association needs members as qualified as you are. Take a look at the site: famillematte.com and fill out the membership form; it's as easy as can be, regardless of age or location. Be known to some descendants of the 9th and even the 10th, 11th, and even 12th generations, our future.
We look forward to knowing who descends from Laurent, Nicolas, or Alexis, son of Nicolas:

3rd Meeting – June 3, 2014

Since the meeting last June, the Association of the Matte of America has grown even larger. The many attendees were able to discuss their ancestry and the functioning of their group. Whether it was about membership, pricing, the website, coats of arms, data collected by everyone, identification of Matte places, the newsletter, personal research, and meetings. Many topics in a very diverse environment of the descendants of Nicolas Matte and Madeleine Auvray.
Whether from Neuville, Pont-Rouge, Cap-Santé, St-Basile, Anc-Lorette, Quebec, Ottawa, it is in an atmosphere of discovery and good cheer that everyone wants to meet again with new guests.

Whether you are a Matte or spouses, parents, friends, they will be pleased to sit with you on Tuesday, September 30th at the Plamondon room, in the town hall of Neuville, 230 rue du Père Rhéaume at 7:30 PM. Thank you for accepting this invitation. We will discuss information, the bilingual website of the Association, future meetings, and more. Looking forward to it.

4th Meeting September 30, 2014

5th Meeting of March 1, 2015

6th Meeting of May 3, 2015

The Association has had two acronyms to date that you can find on certain capsules.

The current emblem represents how the family navigates through time and generations. Since the name Matte has French roots, the logo is a graphic representation of the ship that carried our ancestors Nicolas and Madeleine. Surrounded (blue circle) by other people, we proudly display (top ribbon) our name, in order to honor the tradition, heritage, and family tree of the Matte family. This one sails towards the future. Navigating through time (wave), we are ready to face the future.

The continuation of the History of the Matte Association of America is through the publications of "l'Infor«MATTE»ur", the meetings, and the annual gatherings.
We invite you to watch and read the sections of the Infor«MATTE«ur and the social meetings.
