 Biography

Marie Angelique was the last child born to Nicolas s (61 years) and Madeleine (45 years). She is married to one of the neighbors on the other side of the St Lawrence River. This proves that the ice bridge was often used and they were considered neighbors.

On January 16, 1637, the company of the new-France conceded to Jean Beauvais, Commissioner of the Navy of the Panet, a tract of land of a League of front on the St. Lawrence River, instead said Platon Sainte-Croix, by ten leagues of depth. This concession in fief and Lordship was intended for the Ursulines, who were intending to arrive in Quebec City a few years later. It was September 12, 1646 as Father Jerome Lallement (one of the five Canadian martyrs), Jesuit, served as proxy of the Ursulines, took possession of the seigneury granted to Mr. Beauvais to the benefit of the Ursulines.

We know the St. Croix lordship, contains the enumeration of the notary Dulaurent, dated May 1737. This document contains a list of all the residents of the St Croix to this date. These are: Joseph Houde, Charles L. Bergeron, François Dubois Lafrance, Noël Houde, Guillaume Roignon, Simon Lemay, Gervais Grenier, Jean-Baptiste Houde, Joseph Biron, Étienne Biron, François Sylvestre, François de Nevers, Louis Hamel, Jean Hamel, Joseph Gautier, Jean - Baptiste Gautier, Joseph Grenier and Charles Hamel. The Ursulines were owners of the lordship of St. Croix until 1923.

Isaac-Joseph Garnier - Grenier is the son of Francis Garnier dit Pellerin, who owned lots 19 & 20 (see map of Neuville, Cap 0-I) and Jacqueline Freslon. The marriage contract of Marie - Angelique Matte and Isaac - Joseph Grenier is signed on October 3, 1717 and witnessed by Jacques Laneuville.
